Do Bad Guys Really Hide in the Back Seat of Cars?
In a word… YES. It just happened in Michigan.
Last month, a 78 year-old man stopped at a gas station and went into the convenience store. While he was in the store, a juvenile delinquent got in the victim’s car and hid in the back seat.
When the victim got back in his car the juvenile claimed he was armed with a handgun and ordered the victim to drive to his (the victim’s) home.
Once there, the juvenile ordered the victim out of the car, took the car keys and drove away.
Here’s another example from August 2024: Alcoa surveillance video shows suspected burglar sneak into woman’s car at gas station
And one from July, 2023: Woman finds man hiding under coat in backseat of her car while driving home
What can we learn from this?
Although it’s pretty rare, bad guys really do hide in the back seat of cars. So it’s important to check your back seat when you come back to your car.
Lock your doors! Criminal will most likely move on if the car is locked.
Gas stations are SO not safe anymore. They have become very dangerous areas. So always be wary when entering a gas station parking lot.
Watch for people lurking. Lock all doors. Head on a swivel. Pay attention.
