Smartphones Killed Threat Awareness
I saw this photo on a social media site the other day.
Yah… I laughed. It’s funny!
Then I noticed the other people in the photo. And how they were on their phones.
I see this kind of scene everywhere in all kinds of public places. People engrossed in their phones with absolutely NO idea what is going on around them. None.
Those people are making it so easy for thugs, thieves and predators to target them as victims.
There is absolutely no way you can be on your phone and still be aware of your surroundings. No way.
So a thug, predator, thief… whatever you want to call him (or her)… can target you.
A thief can quietly take that purse, bag, whatever that you put down beside you, without you even knowing.
A thug can be waiting until the door opens to run past, grab your phone and/or bags and be gone in a flash. And maybe hit you or knock you down in the process.
And witnesses? Nah… they’re all on their phones, too. No one saw anything. You lost your valuables (and maybe got injured) and there’s nothing you can do.
“It’s easier for a rich man to ride that camel through the eye of a needle directly into the Kingdom of Heaven, than for some of us to give up our cell phone.” ~Vera Nazarian
(If you don’t get Vera’s joke, get yourself a Bible. Matthew 19:24.)
When you’re in public, put your phone away. Look around. Be aware. Pay attention. And be ready to defend yourself if necessary.
Threat Awareness can keep you and your valuables safe.
